As I always say the restaurant scene in Nairobi keeps growing and pushing it’s own boundaries.
Fam Bam! How are you?!
So this past weekend I go the chance to visit Pan Asian Yao which was formerly Emerald Garden. I had initially planned to do a v-log to show you guys the full experience but I was so hungover lol life happened really fast on Friday night and so it wasn’t even a possibility.
I think it’s interesting how restaurants are making the dining scene as interactive as possible. Reducing our opportunities to be on our cell phones and actually interact with the people around us and actually enjoy our food. As a blogger the whole experience was hard for me to capture because of how enjoyable it was. You really didn’t want a moment to pass you by.
It was a really fantastic day, got to hang out with a couple of cool humans the team over at SHK consulting, YouTuber Noni Muchiri, my girl Kagz who is a writer from the Star, blogger Soni Side Up, Della Mbaya, Priyan Kolpara from the good earth team and a couple of other cool individuals. It was a table of individuals who came together on a Saturday afternoon to have a good time and enjoy some really good food.
I have learnt to write less when it comes to food reviews, so let’s get to it. From their menu we enjoyed two different options. The Bento Tray Menu and the Hot Pot Menu.
Let’s start with the Bento trays. They have 4 different options Indonesian which had the most delicious tamarind dip that I was absolutely obsessed , Chinese which had a delicious wanton salad and a delicious hot and sour soup which obviously helped me kick my hangover to the curb lol, Indian which had a chicken biriyani which was super yum! And my favorite which was the Malaysian which had the most delicious Malaysian stir fried noodles.
These four trays have such distinct flavors that are heavily determined by the region they come from. They all come in veg and non veg options and are actually quite affordable. 800 for the vegetarian options and 1,000 for the non veg. How dope is that price point for all the food you are getting?
Now for the best part about the whole experience. The hot pot menu. Guys would you believe me if I told you that in under a minute you can have your dish ready. So how it works is that you choose your broth of choice (A kastew lol) I had the Sichuan which is spicy however Soni had the Tom Yum which OH MY GOD! Just the right amount of spicy, I would highly recommend the flavors were incredible.
So how it works is that they have induction cookers on the hot pot table which cook really fast , i’m talking chicken is ready in a minute and a half. It’s pretty hard to believe till you see it for yourself. You then choose your Sauce , the types of noodles that you would like to enjoy with your meal. Glass noodle has always been a favorite.
We got to enjoy different types of meat, including lobster and squid, such a fabulous experience. You get to have such an involving time with your date or even your loved ones. Just having a chat as you guys cook and build flavors in your dishes.
Pan Asian Yao is under new management and the changes coming up are about to really change the restaurant scene for sure. I would give this experience an 8/10 and I really think you should give it a go because it was excellent.
Thanks for reading fam,
